The Light Burns the Military Quarter (Heroic Mode)
Blizzard is really trying to boost the Priest class. THEY really are…
I finished normal mode with my Rush Warrior and Priest decks but when I went into Heroic Mode, I seriously shrugged all my Priest prejudices aside and defeated the bosses with Anduin Wrynn *reluctant YAY*.
Why Priest? Well, why not? It may not be the most popular class out there right now but for Curse of Naxxramas adventures, you will need all the healing you can get, so yeah, cozy up with the Light and you’ll be fine.
The Military Quarter has made me look at this class in a different “light”. I constructed a deck that was loosely based on Amaz’s because well…priest. The other two decks were modifications of the first one I made so they would match the other bosses’ hero power.
Here are the decks that I used (opens in new tab):
Priest 1 vs. Instructor Razuvious
The Instructor starts with 55HP so your 30HP doesn’t make it really easy to defeat him. The ideal first draw, IMO, would have at least Acidic Swamp Ooze, a cheap taunt and Inner Fire. You would’t want the Instructor’s 10/2 weapon on your face early in the game so the 2 0/7 Understudies that you’ll steal from him on the first round are very useful. Cast Inner fire to one of the 0/7 Understudies on the second turn and you get a 7/7 minion hurling right into Razuvious face. Try to keep them alive for as long as you can because the Instructor’s hero power (deal 4 damage) will really wear them down fast.
Important: Once the Understudies are dead, Razuvious’ weapon will give 20 damage. Play Ooze to destroy his weapon, heal yourself and don’t forget to put up as many taunts as possible.
Thoughtsteal lets you copy his cards, get his Massive Runeblade and win faster. In this game, I was able to steal his weapon and finish with Holy Nova because he had taunts up. It’s always handy to keep a direct damage spell like Holy Fire in hand for finishing. I wasn’t able to use Ragnaros at all. You can totally replace him with a direct damage spell or your favorite finisher, if you want to.
Game Plan: Put up taunts, try to stay alive with heals, destroy his weapon, steal his weapon, kill.
Priest 2 vs. Gothik the Harvester
Gothik the Harvester’s power is so unfair. At 1 mana crystal, he gets to draw a card and gain a mana crystal. He also summons cheap minions that have “Deathrattle: Summon a Spectral Trainee for your opponent”. These spectral trainees will then deal 1 damage to their hero. For this reason alone, you need a lot of serious heals and you would be reluctant to kill the Unrelenting ones. You turn them into meat shields with your Sunfury Protector and/or use Mass Dispel to silence his minions so their ghosts won’t bother you.
Prophet Velen helped to win the battle by giving that much needed heal/damage boost. Ysera was not able to help in this game but she may still be helpful because of Ysera Awakens. You can replace her with any of your favorite legends, minions or spells.
Game Plan: Put up taunts, try to stay alive with heals, silence the minions, clear the board, go for the kill.
Priest 3 vs. Baron Rivendare
Ideal hand would have Shadow Word: Pain, Acidic Swamp Ooze, cheap taunts and any of the stealing cards. Turn 1 Mind Vision would be nice.
Baron Rivendare has a 2/6 Runeblade that gets +6 Attack when the three horsemen are dead. Try to steal that with Mind Vision or Thoughtsteal; he has four copies of that and odds are, you’ll get it. Destroy his weapon with the Ooze or Harrison Jones.
The most obvious way to defeat the Baron is by killing the three horsemen with Shadow Word: Pain or Stampeding Kodo. I won by stealing one of his Horsemen with Cabal Shadow Priest. This made my hero immune to damage. I hid my Horseman behind lots of taunts so I stayed immune longer then I finished the Baron with Holy Light.
Game Plan: Steal his weapon, put up taunts, kill his horsemen, destroy his weapon, steal one of his horsemen, and kill the Baron. The end. 😀
